Early Language and Communication

Communication skills are vital for children to reach their potential! Children learn language best in their natural settings.
These natural settings are usually:

1. The child’s home

2. The child’s preschool/school

Early Years professionals have received  training and mentoring opportunities whilst engaged with the Blue Skies Initiative Oral Language Programme.

The aim of this training is to inform and empower professionals working with young children every day, so children are given the best environment and opportunities to learn language and develop their communication skills.

This training has included:

Introduction on children’s speech, language and communication development
How to create a Language Rich Environment in Preschools
The Happy Talk Programme
The Elklan Speech and Language Support for 3-5 year olds
Lamh First 100 Signs Training
Ongoing mentoring and Support from the Blue Skies Speech and Language Therapist

Our Speech and Language Therapist, Clare, also delivers talks for parents of children attending an early years setting on developing their children’s speech, language and communication skills. See resource section on website for simple ideas on developing your child’s skills.
